Ten Kings is a historical novel by Ashok Banker. It is the first title in his Itihasa series of novels.
Summary of the Book
In the Rig-Veda, one can find the story of King Sudas. Sudas led his army against seemingly unbeatable odds, facing the armies of the Ten Kings, or the Dasarajna. His enemies were not strangers from another land. Sudas had to fight those who were once his allies and neighbours, and his friend Anu. The Ten Kings were driven to battle by the Sage Vishwamitra to annihilate Sudas and his ?Shudra? tribe. In doing so, they would be able to control the fertile lands in the name of the ?Bharata? nation. The very land in which they fought is burnt into history as one of the most famous archaeological sites on Earth: Harappa. The nation that was founded after their battle ended was called Bharat.
