In If Tomorrow Comes, Tracy Whitney is a beautiful young woman who arrives in Philadelphia with a lot of hopes and dreams. She is engaged to Charles Stanhope III and she has just landed a job as a computer operator at a leading bank. Her personal life and her career are just about to take off. However, things start sliding down fast for Tracy. Her mother commits suicide after being tricked by the New Orleans Mafia boss Orsatti. When Tracy learns what has happened, she naively decides to take on the mob. She ends up getting raped and being accused of attempted murder and theft. Tracy is tricked by her own lawyer and ends up with a stiff prison sentence. She suffers from abuse and a miscarriage in jail. She eventually toughens up with the help of Enristine, an influential prisoner and vows to pay back all those who hurt her. Tracy eventually gets paroled and sets about plotting the downfall of each of the players that led to her mother's death and her own prison sentence. Finding that getting back to her old life is not an option for a woman with a criminal record, she finds new avenues for her newly gained talents.
