Gitanjali is a collection of over one hundred inspirational poems. In 1913 Tagore was the first Indian to be awarded the Nobel Prize in literature for Gitanjali, comprising of poems which are an invocation to God. His tours of friendship and amity across continents gave him the privilege of being the voice of India's spiritual heritage.
